Hi. My name is Jessica and I invented RockMoto and the Internet. Actually just the Internet. I work for Discover Today’s Motorcycling, the communications branch of the not-for-profit Motorcycle Industry Council. My mission is to help the motorcycle industry do a better job serving women and young people. Why? Because I love motorcycles more than I love air. I want to see more women and young people riding them. So, as a way to accomplish my goal and torch my sanity, I came up with this monster project called RockMoto.
I was riding home from work one day, listening to Blue Sky by Fluke, when it hit me: motorcycling is all about music. It’s the same kind of power, the same mental trip that touches your psyche in ways that nothing else can. Which is probably why so many musicians are motorcyclists. And athletes. And artists. And ordinary people who want to do an extraordinary thing.
Thus was born RockMoto, a new website devoted to the power of music and motorcycles. It started as an idea for a web-based video series about musicians and other artists who ride. Then we added a user-generated video component so other people could share their stories. Which turned into a social network with user profiles and a MotoMatch function to create a living, breathing community. Which led to a partnership with Pandora offering two special RockMoto radio stations. Which inspired us to add a playlist section where people could share and find cool music. Which, of course, made us add a blog. And on top of it all, we added new rider info, on-the-road stories and a bike comparison application to help people figure out which motorcycle might fit them. All of which has recently turned my life into something like the last moments on the ship in Alien 3.
But, at last, here we are, out there for the world to see. And though it freaks me out, I’m pretty damn excited to see the site go live. Since this is the beta version, we still have some work to do, like finishing content and fixing bugs. If you have any helpful comments or feedback, click on the comments link in our banner to send us a message. Above all, I hope you enjoy the site! Now go snag a good username, check out RockMoto Radio and help us build one of the coolest communities on the web. - JP
