Clockwise: Rusty Pistachio (H2O), Steve Jones (Sex Pistols), Billy Morrison (The Cult/Camp Freddy), Anthony Guarderas (La Coka Nostra), Scott Patterson (man of mystery), Danny Boy (House of Pain/La Coka Nostra)Did a shoot last Sunday with the Hellfire Canyon Club around the twisties of Malibu. Unbelievable! Besides laughing my ass off (mostly from the footage we can’t use on our wholesome family show), I had an awesome time riding and hanging out with this crew. All good riders and extremely nice about dicing with the camera bikes in the corners – fortunately for me, as I was a passenger shooting from the back of our VFR and trying to not fall off or puke from looking at the road through the camera. I’d never ridden with the HFCC before, had no idea what to expect. I was psyched that everyone could wick it up a bit, switch places a lot and still maintain some margin of safety, which usually only happens when you have a group of solid riders that know each other well.
In the end, we scored some cool riding footage and great interviews, though in the interest of keeping my job I may have to chop more than half of my chat with Jonesy from the Sex Pistols. Just kidding. I’ll pretty much have to cut the whole thing. Anyway, spending a day with guys I admire as musicians, some of whom have been in the limelight for years, brought to light one of my favorite things about motorcycling: it drops barriers. No matter who or how big you are, most enthusiasts are just genuinely psyched to be around bikes for the day.
