Went to see Cypress Hill at the Jimmy Kimmel Live taping last night in Hollywood -- awesome show, even when they notched down the volume. I've liked them since they showed up in the early 90s, but I'd never seen them live. Their sound is so distinct that hearing it in person after all these years was amazing. Enhanced by the fact that I was with Roland Sands, who knew every word to almost every song and was more stoked than anybody to be there. This is Roland stoked:

They played a few songs off the new album, Rise Up, which just dropped today -- if you haven't listened to it, DO IT. One thing about Cypress Hill, every album is some kind of progression, and this one has some truly epic stuff. Here it is, two decades later, and they're still putting out a diverse collection that's as relevant and ground-breaking now as that first album was in its day.

By the way, we were lucky enough to be able to include one of the new songs in an upcoming RockMoto episode with Sen Dog, which features Roland and the making of a one-off helmet for some lucky winner...more to come very soon.

The new album includes a few songs with Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, who was at Jimmy Kimmel and killed it. I swear, if the world is really ending and I can only see one more show before it's over, I would see Tom Morello play guitar. Hopefully with Rage, but I'd pretty much take him with anybody. Freaking amazing. Actually, I'd put him onstage with Perry Farrell and Les Claypool and some insane drummer like Neal Peart, but I digress.

Back to Cypress Hill: This was the first show I've been to in a while that ended way too fast. I wanted more, so much more, but it was over when we were just getting pumped. Live music can be entertaining, fascinating, soothing, moving, but Cypress Hill is flat-out energizing. Insane, you might say. We walked away with charged particles coursing through our veins.

Shortly afterwards, Roland had two near-death experiences in less than a minute, but that's just another night with Roland and a story for another time. Go to iTunes and download Rise Up. I mean it. JP
